Down Waking Festival
Friday 4th - 6th August 2006


The Venue
The Festival Centre will be based in Castlewellan Forest Park. Just follow the signs. Tea, coffee and snacks will be available for purchase throughout the day. Showers will be available in the Festival Centre.

Car Parking
Please park in the allocated car park in the Forest Park.

Saturday

Mourne Mountains - Donard and Commedagh
This is a strenuous route. Festival Centre, bus to Bloody Bridge, Bloody Bridge river to Bog of Donard, summit of Slieve Donard, Mourne Wall, The Castles, summit of Slieve Commedagh, descent onto Shan Slieve and Slievenamaddy, Glen River to Donard Park, bus to Festival Centre.

Castlewellan Forest Park
Festival Centre, Arboretum, Mitchell’s Lake, the Boundary Walk, Slievenaslat View Point, Fox’s Green, Leitrim Road, the Boundary Walk, the Moorish Tower, Slievebeg, the Crow Road, Festival Centre.

Dundrum and Murlough Nature Reserve
Festival Centre, bus to Slidderyford Picnic Area, Murlough Nature Reserve, paths through the rabbit warren into Murlough Lower, Murlough House, the boat house, Keel Point, Dam Lane, Castle Hill, Dundrum Castle, bus to Festival Centre.

Granite Trail
Festival Centre, bus to Harbour Car Park, the Bogie Line, Thomas’s Mountain, Donard Wood. the Glen River track, Donard Demesne, Bath Lane, South Promenade, Harbour Car Park, bus to Festival Centre.


Sunday

Mourne Mountains - Bluelough Summit Route
This is a strenuous route. Festival Centre, bus to Carrick Little Car
Park, Mourne Wall to Slieve Binnian, North Tor and descending to first Blue Lough, descent to Ben Crom Reservoir, ascent to Ben Crom and to the second Blue Lough, ascent to summit of Slieve Bearnagh, North Tor and onto Trassey Track, bus to Festival Centre.

Mourne Mountains - Bluelough Valley Route
This is a slightly less strenuous guided hike. Festival Centre, bus to
Carrick Little Car Park, ascend to Blue Lough Carrick Little Track, ascend to Col. Slieve Lamagan and Slieve Binnian, descend to Ben Crom Dam Wall, ascend to Ben Crom, descend to Blue Lough, ascend to Col of Pollahuca, descend to Trassey Track Car Park, bus to Festival Centre.

Castlewellan Loanans - Long Route
Festival Centre, Drumee, Carnacavill, Burrenreagh, Festival Centre.

Castlewellan Loanans - Short Route
Festival Centre, Drumee Road, Burrenreagh, Festival Centre.

Slieve Croob
This is a fairly strenuous walk. Festival Centre, bus to Finnis, ascend to summit of Slieve Croob, descent to Seeconnell, bus to Festival Centre.

Castlewellan Forest Park- Lakeside and Mountain View
This route is suitable for all the family. Festival Centre, Castle Walk,
Long Wood, the Moorish Tower, the Boundary Walk, Crow Road,
Festival Centre.


Registration Details
You need to register each day. For safety reasons please ensure that you check in at the end of each walk.
